Death is an experience that cannot be described. Once you cross this border, there is no return. The person who experiences it, leaves the world for ever. Based on the observation that the contemporary body more than ever rejects its own mortality, and that the subject of death, while omnipresent in the media, is willingly eliminated from everyday life, she turns to some historical phenomena and fantasies associated with death, such as dance macabre, rituals, personification of death, aesthetics of gore or petite mort in eroticism. Creating a series of meetings with death, including it in the choreography as an elusive partner, Piotrowska is exploring the contemporary understanding – or lack of it – of the process of dying.
